What is a USI?

28/8/2015

Comments

USI stands for Unique Superannuation Identifier.

When taking on new employees you would normally need them to fill out a Tax File Number Declaration and a Super Choice form. The Super Choice forms have been updated so please use the link provided to get the most upto date version. You will need all current staff to also update their Super Choice forms to include this new USI as well.

Please make sure when they select their own super fund that they fill in all the details including the USI not the SPIN. The SPIN is not valid for SuperStream purposes. To make sure they have provided you the correct details you can check within your payroll software (Xero has the full listing of all regulated super funds and their USI numbers). Or you can use the ATO lookup tool found here.

The USI is part of the new 'SuperStream' rollout that will be compulsory from 1 July 2016 for all small businesses. It is essential for your payroll software to include this USI so that you can process your SGC payments on time!
